Purpose of the role

To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through them. 

Accountabilities

• Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
• Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
• Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
• Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identify and address bottlenecks, and implement best practices for performance tuning.
• Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and work closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

We are looking for engineers who are passionate about eliminating manual effort, automating operational processes, improving platform reliability, and building scalable solutions through code. This role is ideal for someone with a strong automation mindset, excellent scripting skills, and experience managing complex enterprise environments.

To be successful as a Site Reliability Engineer, you should have experience with:

• Good Python development skills for automation, tooling, operational engineering, and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management, infrastructure automation, deployment orchestration, and operational runbook automation.
• Experience developing automated solutions to improve availability, reduce operational overhead, and enhance platform reliability.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and Bash/Shell scripting.
• Good understanding of CI/CD principles and automated deployment pipelines.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, alerting, and operational telemetry platforms.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and incident remediation.
• Experience working in Agile teams using Jira and related delivery practices.
• Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles, including reliability engineering, operational excellence, capacity planning, resilience, and service availability.

Some other highly valued skills may help:

• Experience administering enterprise database platforms such as Oracle.
• Knowledge of Oracle Database architecture, PL/SQL.
• Experience with enterprise observability platforms such as Splunk, Elastic, Observe, Grafana, Prometheus.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and platform engineering practices.
