Functional Consultant – Project & Client Management 

Role Purpose 

The Functional Consultant will be responsible for managing assigned projects/workstreams while performing functional consulting activities across the solution lifecycle. The role will act as a bridge between business stakeholders, technical teams, and project leadership to ensure requirements are understood, translated into functional solutions, delivered on time, and adopted successfully. 

The individual will combine functional consulting, project coordination, stakeholder management, and delivery governance responsibilities. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Project Management & Delivery 

• Manage assigned projects, workstreams, or functional modules from initiation through closure.  

• Develop and maintain project plans, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and timelines.  

• Track project progress and ensure delivery against agreed scope, timeline, and quality.  

• Identify project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies and drive mitigation actions.  

• Coordinate with functional, technical, and business teams to resolve delivery challenges.  

• Conduct regular project status meetings and follow up on action items.  

• Support resource planning and workload management for assigned workstreams.  

• Ensure project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.  

2. Functional Consulting 

• Engage with business stakeholders to understand business processes, challenges, and requirements.  

• Conduct requirement gathering workshops and stakeholder discussions.  

• Analyse current-state and future-state business processes.  

• Translate business requirements into functional requirements and solution designs.  

• Prepare key functional deliverables including:  

• Business Requirement Documents (BRD)  

• Functional Requirement Documents (FRD)  

• User Stories  

• Process Flows  

• Use Cases  

• Functional Specifications  

• Gap Analysis  

• Acceptance Criteria  

• Work with technical teams to ensure functional requirements are accurately translated into the solution.  

• Support configuration, validation, and functional testing where applicable.  

• Participate in solution demonstrations and walkthroughs with business stakeholders.  

3. Client & Stakeholder Management 

• Act as a key point of contact for assigned business stakeholders and project teams.  

• Build strong relationships with business and client stakeholders.  

• Manage stakeholder expectations regarding scope, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables.  

• Facilitate requirement clarification and decision-making discussions.  

• Communicate project progress, risks, issues, and dependencies to relevant stakeholders.  

• Support governance meetings and project steering discussions.  

• Ensure timely closure of client queries and action items.  

4. Solution & Process Management 

• Understand the end-to-end business process and identify opportunities for improvement.  

• Analyse business challenges and recommend appropriate solutions using available platforms and technologies.  

• Support platform and solution decision-making in collaboration with architects and technical leads.  

• Identify process standardization and automation opportunities.  

• Ensure functional solutions align with business objectives and enterprise standards.  

• Support integration discussions between ERP and surrounding applications.  

5. Testing & Quality Assurance 

• Prepare functional test scenarios and test cases.  

• Support SIT and UAT planning and execution.  

• Coordinate defect management and resolution with technical teams.  

• Validate that delivered functionality meets agreed business requirements.  

• Support business users during UAT.  

• Ensure proper documentation of test results and approvals.  

6. Documentation & Knowledge Management 

• Maintain functional and project documentation in agreed repositories.  

• Develop reusable templates, accelerators, process libraries, and knowledge assets.  

• Ensure documentation follows defined quality and governance standards.  

• Support creation of training materials and user guides.  

• Contribute to continuous improvement of functional consulting methodologies.
