Data and AI capabilities support decision-making, automation, optimization, and innovation across the Chevron value chain, including Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, and enterprise functions. This role applies data science, machine learning, and AI-enabled approaches to solve business problems and deliver measurable outcomes.
The Role
- The function of this role is to partner with the business to translate opportunities into data, AI, and machine learning solutions that deliver measurable business value.
- The successful candidate will have the skills to frame business problems, prototype and build data science and AI-enabled products, and support adoption of scalable solutions.
As a Data Scientist, you will:
- Identify and frame opportunities to apply data science, machine learning, AI, GenAI-enabled workflows, and related technologies to improve decision-making, workflow efficiency, automation, and business outcomes.
- Define the expected business value, success measures, and adoption considerations for proposed opportunities.
- Identify needed data and appropriate technology to solve identified business challenges.
- Clean data and develop and test models.
- Establish the life cycle management process for models.
- Engage business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to communicate progress, quantify impact, support adoption, value and identify additional opportunities.
- Provide technical mentoring in modeling and analytics technologies, the specifics of the modeling process, and general consulting skills.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in applying advanced analytics techniques.
Skills
- Demonstrated depth applied data science and ML data science technologies (e.g., machine learning, operations research, statistics, data mining)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem
- Proficiency in Python
- Strong business problem framing skills, with the ability to translate business needs into data science, AI, and machine learning opportunities that deliver measurable value.
- Awareness of data quality, data governance, metadata, lineage, and responsible use of enterprise data in analytics and AI solutions.
- Familiarity with model lifecycle management and MLOps practices, including model documentation, monitoring, performance management, retraining, and responsible deployment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across functional and geographic areas and explain technical concepts to business audiences.
- Responsible AI mindset, including consideration of privacy, security, transparency, fairness, human oversight, and appropriate governance when developing or applying AI-enabled solutions.
- Preferred: domain experience in upstream, midstream, downstream, or enterprise functions, with demonstrated ability to learn and apply business context quickly.
Preferred Education
- Minimum B.S. or M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline.
