We're looking for a Senior System Architect in our Platform Engineering department, who wants to shape how platform engineering is implemented across Platform Engineering & Operations. Your architectural decisions will help hundreds of engineers and application teams deliver secure, reliable, and compliant solutions faster, while reducing infrastructure complexity.
Our mission is simple: reduce cognitive (over)load for application teams by providing intuitive, automated, and well-orchestrated platform capabilities. We build and evolve the strategic platforms that power the bank's technology landscape, enabling teams to focus on delivering customer value instead of managing infrastructure complexity.
As a Senior System Architect, you will shape platform architecture, define engineering standards, drive automation strategies, and design API-based interactions between our platforms and supporting services. You will translate the strategic direction into practical architectural choices, align with stakeholders and help platform product teams adopt them.
Your job
In this role, you will:
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient platform solutions that support enterprise-wide adoption.
- Create golden paths: approved, reusable patterns that make it easier for teams to onboard to and consume our platforms.
- Drive architectural consistency across our public- and private-cloud environments.
- Balance long-term strategic vision with pragmatic implementation approaches.
- Contribute to the standards for platform automation, self-service capabilities, integration (APIs) and platform consumption.
- Drive API-first platform design by defining consistent principles for platform interfaces, integration, and consumption.
- Build alignment among enterprise architects, system architects, platform engineers, developers, security specialists, and senior management so that architectural decisions can be implemented across the organisation.
- Present architectural visions, roadmaps, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Working environment
The Platform Engineering department is part of the Platform Engineering & Operations domain and consists of three teams. Together, we make infrastructure platforms easier and faster for application teams to consume. We set standards for automation and API-based integration, and we co-create solutions with other platform teams in areas such as automation, APIs, and AI. Our approach combines innovation with pragmatic implementation in the ABN AMRO environment.

Your profile
This role is a strong fit if you enjoy turning complex enterprise constraints into simple, reusable platform experiences and influencing technical direction across multiple teams. You bring several of the following qualifications and are motivated to develop further in the remaining areas:
- Proven experience as a System, Solution, or Platform Architect, driving architecture across multiple teams, platforms, or domains (+5 years experience)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of enterprise-scale environments, including governance, security, compliance, and operational excellence. (+5 years experience)
- Expertise in cloud and infrastructure architectures, including Azure, VMware, and hybrid cloud environments. (+10 years experience)
- Experience with platform engineering and automation, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, orchestration, and self-service platform capabilities. (+5 years experience)
- Broad technical background in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, reliability, scalability, observability, and resilience patterns. (+10 years experience)
- Passion for emerging technologies such as cloud-native solutions, AI, and digital sovereignty.
