Description
Union Bancaire Privée (UBP) is one of Switzerland's leading private banks, serving private and institutional clients from Geneva, Zurich and a network of international offices. Within the bank, the Compliance Projects & Tools team is responsible for the applications, data flows and working methods that allow the Compliance function to monitor the bank's activity and meet its regulatory obligations.
As a Data & Process Analyst, you will join this team on concrete, hands-on assignments. Your work will consist of understanding how a compliance process works today, locating and analysing the data behind it, and proposing a clearer, better documented and more automated way of running it. You will move between business questions, banking datasets and the tools that consume them.
Alongside the analytical work, you will take part in the delivery of Compliance projects: gathering requirements from the business, writing specifications, preparing and running tests, and documenting how a new tool is meant to behave. Doing so, you will see in a short period, how a regulated process is designed, challenged and industrialised.
Artificial intelligence is part of the toolbox. The bank provides its staff with secure enterprise generative-AI assistants, and Compliance is actively looking at how to use them well: summarizing and comparing regulatory documents, extracting structured information from free text, drafting and reviewing procedures, and answering recurring questions faster.
Mission
Support the Compliance Projects & Tools team in analysing, documenting and improving compliance processes and the data that feeds them, and in delivering the tools that support the function.
The role sits at the intersection of data analysis, process design and project delivery: taking an open question, breaking it down, testing it against real data and coming back with a clear, evidence-based recommendation – making full and sensible use of the analytical and artificial-intelligence tools the bank makes available.
You will be mentored by a Change Manager in Compliance Projects & Tools team, based in our Geneva office, and will work closely with Compliance officers and IT teams.
Main responsibilities
■ Map and document compliance processes, controls and data flows, and identify simplification or automation opportunities
■ Extract, clean and structure data from several internal banking systems in order to answer precise compliance questions
■ Build small scripts and prototypes, mainly in Python and SQL, to automate recurring manual tasks / reportings and reduce operational effort
■ Contribute to Compliance projects end to end: requirements, specifications, test cases and user acceptance testing
■ Turn analytical findings into clear, concise material that non-technical stakeholders and management can act upon
Education
■ Currently enrolled at EPFL (or an equivalent Swiss university) in a Bachelor's final year or Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering or another quantitative discipline
■ Solid foundation in statistics and data handling; academic or personal projects involving AI are a plus
Experience
■ Working knowledge of Python and a genuine willingness to develop it further in a professional environment; familiarity with SQL is an advantage
■ Comfortable working with large or imperfect datasets: cleaning, joining, reconciling and validating data before drawing conclusions
■ Hands-on user of generative-AI assistants, with a realistic sense of what they do well, where they fail, and how to verify what they produce
■ Good command of Excel and the ability to produce clear, well-structured written documentation
■ Interest in banking, financial markets or regulation; previous experience in the financial industry is a plus but is not required
■ No prior compliance knowledge is expected: the regulatory context will be taught on the job
Language
■ French: Fluent
■ English: Fluent
Personal Skills
■ Curious and inventive: you want to understand how a process really works before proposing a solution, and you enjoy building things rather than only describing them
■ Structured, rigorous and quality conscious, with a critical eye on your own results
■ Sound judgement on AI-generated output: you verify it against the source before relying on it, and you say so when it does not hold
■ Able to explain technical work in simple terms, in writing and verbally, to non-technical stakeholders
■ Autonomous and pragmatic: you can take an open question, break it down and come back with something concrete within a short timeframe
■ Reliable, discreet and at ease with the confidentiality standards of a private bank
■ A flexible team player, comfortable in an environment where priorities evolve quickly
