Markel offers hybrid working schedules of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
This position will manage a team of examiners handling a variety of excess construction claims involving bodily injury, property damage and construction defect. This position will report to a Senior Director in the Casualty Claims group and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.
Responsibilities
Monitor and direct new loss assignments for excess construction claims Confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims Review and approve correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling examiner Assess and evaluate individual examiner and team performance, provide feedback, and address training needs Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to senior management Participate in review and discussion of large loss activity in the construction book with interested stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Executive Management) Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses, and assessment of resource needs Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial) Assist in identifying industry and coverage trends Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners Participate in special projects as requested Travel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree preferred
Certification
Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
Insurance certifications or affiliation with industry group preferred
Work Experience
Minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in managing claims examiners at the Senior Claims Examiner and/or Executive Claims Examiner level

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the position is $118,960 - $163,570 with a 30% bonus potential.
