Access Administration Process Automation Engineer

Role Summary

The Access Administration Automation Analyst will support the identification, documentation and delivery of automation opportunities across the Identity and Access Management (IAM) service portfolio.

This is an entry-level role suitable for someone early in their career, including a recent graduate, with an interest in technology, cyber security, process improvement and automation.

Working with Access Administration teams, application owners, IAM engineering teams and business stakeholders, the analyst will help review existing access administration activities and support the move from manual processes to more consistent, controlled and automated services.

The successful candidate is not expected to have deep IAM or automation experience, but should be curious, analytical, willing to learn and comfortable working with data, processes and technology.

The objective of the role is to build practical experience in IAM operations and automation while helping the team reduce manual effort, improve service delivery and strengthen control effectiveness.

As part of a developing role within the wider IAM function, the successful candidate may also be asked to support related activities outside the core responsibilities of this position, where these provide learning opportunities or help deliver team priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Access Administration Automation

• Support the review of existing Access Administration services to identify potential automation opportunities
• Document current-state manual fulfilment processes with guidance from team members
• Assist in analysing provisioning and de-provisioning activities for applications that are not yet integrated with strategic IAM platforms
• Help define simple, repeatable automation requirements that can be used across multiple applications
• Support automation of access request intake, validation, fulfilment, evidence collection and reporting activities
• Contribute to automation activities supporting Joiner, Mover and Leaver processes
• Learn how to identify process exceptions and help document approaches for handling them safely

RPA & Desktop Automation

• Learn to develop and maintain simple robotic process automation and desktop automation solutions
• Support automation activities performed through web, desktop, terminal and legacy application interfaces
• Assist with testing automation solutions and documenting issues, exceptions and improvement opportunities
• Help monitor and maintain existing automation solutions under guidance from experienced team members

IAM Process Transformation

• Work with IAM operational teams to understand day-to-day activities, workload drivers and service demand
• Support the development of automation backlogs and improvement plans aligned to IAM transformation objectives
• Assist with application onboarding activities involving SailPoint, Microsoft Entra ID Governance and other IAM/IGA platforms
• Help document and standardise IAM operating procedures and fulfilment models
• Contribute to analysis of automation opportunities across access administration, certification, audit and governance processes

Intelligent Automation & AI

• Develop awareness of emerging AI and intelligent automation technologies that may improve access administration operations
• Support proof-of-concept activities for request analysis, workflow support and operational automation
• Help assess opportunities for decision support, while maintaining appropriate human review and control
• Learn how AI-assisted automation can support IAM operations in a controlled and responsible way

Governance & Risk Management

• Support the team in ensuring automation solutions maintain required security controls and segregation of duties requirements
• Assist with audit readiness through evidence capture, traceability and clear documentation
• Help ensure automation activities are documented and traceable
• Support the documentation of automation controls, exception handling and recovery procedures

Required Qualifications

Education, Experience and Interest

• Degree, apprenticeship, internship or equivalent interest in technology, cyber security, computer science, information systems, engineering, business analysis or a related discipline
• Interest in Identity and Access Management, cyber security, automation or operational improvement
• Ability to analyse information, follow structured processes and document findings clearly
• Any exposure to service management, workflow tools, ticketing systems, coding, scripting or automation would be beneficial but is not essential

Technical Skills

• Basic understanding of automation concepts or willingness to learn tools such as UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism or Microsoft Power Automate
• Interest in workflow automation, process improvement and operational tooling
• Basic data handling skills, for example using Excel to review, organise or compare information. Exposure to scripting, coding or automation tools would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Ability to map, describe or improve simple business processes
• Awareness of authentication, authorisation or access control concepts, or willingness to learn
• Exposure to IAM/IGA platforms such as SailPoint, Microsoft Entra ID Governance, Saviynt, Omada or ServiceNow would be advantageous but is not required

Desirable Skills

• Exposure to IAM, cyber security, IT operations or service management through university projects, internships, placements or personal learning
• Interest in automating repetitive manual tasks
• Awareness of APIs, automation frameworks or systems integration
• Basic knowledge of access governance concepts such as role-based access, segregation of duties, Joiner/Mover/Leaver or user access reviews
• Interest in AI, GenAI or intelligent automation technologies

• Contribution to automation discovery, testing and delivery activities.
• Improvement in understanding of IAM, automation and control requirements.
• Support provided to reduce manual access administration effort.
• Timely completion of assigned tasks and learning objectives.
• Quality of audit evidence capture and traceability support.
• Positive collaboration with ISA/SAS teams and wider IAM stakeholders.
• Contribution to simple automation or AI-assisted improvement opportunities under appropriate supervision.
