Skills and Competencies
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the financial industry, strategy, consulting, market research, product strategy, data strategy, or related fields
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down business and data questions into practical options and recommendations
- Strong understanding of financial markets, company analysis, market research, competitive analysis, and customer needs assessment
- Working knowledge of financial accounting and regulatory considerations
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations
- Ability to constructively challenge assumptions, build alignment, and communicate trade-offs clearly
- Interest in how data creates business value and how new data sources can support product innovation, customer outcomes, and differentiation
- Ability to responsibly leverage modern AI tools and platforms to improve research and insight generation
- Familiarity with data analysis tools, AI-enabled research tools, or data platforms is a plus
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Operations Research, Data Analytics, Finance, Economics, Business, Journalism, English, Information Science, Communications, History, or a related field requiring strong analytical reasoning, research, and written communication skills
Responsibilities
The Assistant Director, Data Strategy will support the development of data acquisition and partnership strategies that build data assets and capabilities underpinning Moody’s products. This role is well suited for someone with strong analytical judgment, curiosity, and excellent written communication skills. Working closely with senior data strategists and cross-functional partners, you will help shape how the organization translates customer needs into sourcing decisions that support future products.- Assess market dynamics, customer requirements, and data availability to identify high-impact data opportunities
- Translate evolving customer needs and product priorities into clear data sourcing requirements and actionable recommendations
- Prepare market assessments, vendor comparisons, and sourcing recommendations to inform investment and negotiation decisions
- Support commercial and contract discussions by providing data-driven analysis and context for negotiation strategy
- Support vendor trials and proof-of-concept initiatives by helping define success criteria, track findings, and summarize outcomes
- Contribute to roadmap and planning efforts by identifying data priorities, risks, dependencies, and growth opportunities
- Support periodic reviews of data source performance, sourcing effectiveness, and strategic relevance
- Prepare clear, concise presentations, analyses, and recommendations for senior leadership
