Mainframe Systems Programmer

Join our Infrastructure team and help maintain, optimize and secure a mission-critical IBM Z environment supporting high-availability business services.
At Generali, we are looking for an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer to join our Mainframe Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, availability, and security of our IBM Z infrastructure, supporting critical business services across the organization.
You will work closely with infrastructure, operations, application teams, IBM, and external vendors to maintain and enhance our enterprise mainframe environment.
What you will do:
- Install, customize, maintain, and upgrade IBM z/OS operating systems
- Perform system software installation, maintenance, and SMP/E software management
- Install, configure, and support IBM and third-party (ISV) software products
- Manage IPL activities, maintenance windows, and planned infrastructure changes
- Monitor system performance and capacity, identifying opportunities for optimization
- Analyze and resolve complex technical issues and production incidents
- Implement IBM maintenance, PTFs, APARs, and software upgrades
- Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity initiatives
- Collaborate with RACF administrators to maintain system security and compliance
- Support automation and scheduling solutions
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures
- Work with IBM and third-party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Participate in on-call activities and major incident management processes
What we are looking for:
Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in IBM zSystems (IBM Z) and z/OS systems programming
- Proven experience with installation, administration, and support of z/OS environments
- Hands-on experience with SMP/E software management
- Solid knowledge of IBM maintenance processes, including PTFs, APARs, and software upgrades
- Experience supporting IBM and ISV software products within enterprise production environments
- Knowledge of IPL processes, maintenance planning, and infrastructure change management
- Experience with performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity management
- Understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity practices
- Knowledge of mainframe security concepts and cooperation with RACF teams
- Experience with automation and scheduling tools is an advantage
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures
- Experience working with technology vendors and external suppliers
- Ability to manage and resolve critical production incidents

Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience working with Mainframe technologies
- Experience operating and supporting mission-critical, high-availability production environments
Nice to Have:
- Official IBM certifications
- Experience within financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated industries
