Purpose

• Leads a team responsible for AML (Anti-Money Laundering) investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, and related risks, ensuring high-quality, consistent investigations and timely regulatory reporting, while effectively managing and mitigating risk exposure.
• Ensures alignment with regulatory requirements, policies, and risk appetite.

Accountabilities

Investigations Oversight

• Ensure delivery of high-quality investigations, including complex cases.
• Oversee identification of Reasonable Grounds to Suspect (RGS) and risk outcomes.

Risk and Reporting

• Ensure accurate risk identification, escalation, and high-quality, timely regulatory reporting.
• Validate risk mitigation decisions and client outcomes.

Decision-Making and Escalation

• Act as decision authority for investigative outcomes.
• Escalate material risks and issues appropriately.

Team Leadership

• Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their teams to deep client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Lead team performance, productivity, and capability development.
• Establish clear priorities and workload distribution.
• Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and ScotiaBond behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Quality and Controls

• Ensure consistency, completeness, and accuracy of outputs.
• Oversee quality control processes and remediation actions.

Operations Management

• Manage workflow, prioritization, and capacity.
• Drive performance improvement and operational efficiency.

People Development

• Provide coaching, feedback, and development planning.
• Support succession and talent strategies.

Continuous Improvement

• Lead process and control enhancements.
• Use insights to drive broader program improvements.

Collaboration and Communication

• Communicate findings through clear, structured presentations and materials, ensuring alignment across stakeholders.

Governance

• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, and promote their consistent application.

• Ensure adherence to policies, frameworks, and risk standards.

Education / Experience / Other Information

• University degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in AML, financial crime, risk management, or a related field. including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Proven ability to manage teams and influence stakeholders.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of AML frameworks and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and leadership capability.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required for roles based in the Colombian and Dominican Republic AML Hubs.

Working Conditions

• Office-based environment within a fast-paced, high-demand setting.
• Work involves time-sensitive investigations, competing priorities, and risk-driven activities.
• Occasional non-standard hours may be required.
• Hybrid work model is offered, with in-office attendance expected in line with business and team requirements.
