Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, International Finance

Business Performance Management & Insight
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual performance management processes in Aegon International.
- Ensure management discussions focus on business trajectory, key value drivers, emerging risks, opportunities and management actions.
- Translate financial and operational results into clear business insight, explaining what happened, why it happened, what it means and what management should do next.
- Develop forward-looking assessments of earning capacity, cash generation, capital efficiency, solvency position, expense development and strategic execution.
- Identify and communicate early warning indicators to avoid surprises and support proactive management intervention.
Strategic Planning, Forecasting & Scenario Analysis
- Lead the strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting processes across Aegon International.
- Ensure plans and forecasts are realistic, ambitious, internally consistent and aligned with strategic priorities.
- Challenge assumptions, performance expectations and business cases across business units.
- Perform scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis and stress testing to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Ensure management understands the implications of key risks, opportunities and alternative strategic choices.
Business Steering & Value Creation
- Act as a trusted finance advisor to the International CFO, CEO and Executive Committee.
- Partner with business unit leadership teams to identify opportunities to improve growth, profitability, capital efficiency, cash generation and shareholder value.
- Evaluate strategic initiatives, investments, business restructuring opportunities, acquisitions and performance improvement actions.
- Provide independent finance challenge on business performance, resource allocation decisions and strategic priorities.
- Support management in balancing growth, profitability, risk, capital consumption and resilience.
Performance Narrative & Stakeholder Communication
- Own the overall Aegon International performance narrative for International and Group Executive Committee reviews, strategic planning discussions, budgeting, remuneration processes and investor-related communications.
- Convert complex accounting, actuarial, capital and business information into concise, business-intuitive messages.
- Ensure consistency of messaging across management reporting, forecasts, strategic plans and external stakeholder communications.
- Support preparation of presentations, Q&A materials, annual reporting commentary, remuneration assessments and other senior management communications.
Finance Analytics, Technology & Process Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement in management information, dashboards, KPIs and analytical capabilities.
- Reduce low-value reporting activity through automation, simplification and standardisation.
- Promote the use of AI, advanced analytics and data visualisation tools to enhance insight generation and decision support.
- Improve the effectiveness of management reporting by increasing focus on business decisions, risks and actions.
Projects & Strategic Initiatives
- Support mergers, acquisitions, strategic projects, capital optimisation initiatives and new business ventures.
- Provide robust financial analysis, challenge and decision support across major strategic initiatives.
- Lead or participate in ad hoc projects that improve business performance, financial management or strategic execution.
Education
- Advanced University Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Actuarial Science or related discipline.
- Professional accounting/finance/actuarial qualification such as CPA, ACCA, ACA, FIA/FSA, CFA or equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum 15 years' experience within insurance, financial services or another complex international financial environment.
- Significant experience in FP&A, business performance management, strategic planning, forecasting, business partnering or business controlling.
- Strong understanding of insurance financial drivers, including earnings, capital, solvency, cash generation, value creation and expense management.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS 17 and insurance capital frameworks.
- Proven experience supporting senior management decision-making through financial analysis and business insight.
- Experience working within both a business unit as well as a regional, multinational or group finance environment is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and challenge constructively.
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of insurance economics, financial performance drivers, capital management and value creation.
- Good understanding of accounting, actuarial and capital frameworks relevant to insurance businesses.
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic understanding.
