About the Role

As a Quantitative Credit Actuary within our Actuarial Portfolio Management, Credit & Surety team, you will be at the heart of how Swiss Re prices, models and steers its Credit & Surety portfolio. This is a role where your analytical expertise will have a direct and visible impact — from shaping individual deal decisions to influencing long-term portfolio strategy.

You will combine actuarial judgement, deep credit risk knowledge and hands-on quantitative model development to build, enhance and deploy analytical and simulation-based pricing and costing models. As a product owner for existing costing tools, you will collaborate closely with full-stack developers across the full delivery lifecycle — from requirements discovery and prototyping through to user-story definition, release validation and production adoption.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop an independent view on pricing and loss adequacy through rigorous data analysis of the in-force Credit & Surety portfolio, ensuring insights are grounded in evidence and actuarial best practice
• Contribute to portfolio studies, loss trend analyses and profitability assessments that actively support portfolio steering and business performance
• Translate profitability findings into corrective actions on costing models and parameters, ensuring models remain accurate, current and fit for purpose
• Support the pricing and modelling of individual deals, single risks and portfolio transactions, providing independent actuarial pricing opinions to underwriters and portfolio owners
• Conduct forward-looking sector and credit market analyses and feasibility studies to support long-term strategic initiatives
• Apply credit risk modelling expertise to the development and calibration of assumptions, methodologies and parameters — including EAD, LGD and PD
• Drive enhancements to costing models and parameter settings aligned with Swiss Re standards and evolving business needs
• Evaluate model accuracy, stability, uncertainty and limitations, and communicate implications clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Partner with Underwriting, Reserving, Claims, Finance and other key functions to build a comprehensive, integrated view of risk and performance across the portfolio

The team reports directly to the Head of Underwriting Excellence, Corporate Solutions, giving us strong visibility and influence across the business. About You

You are a curious, collaborative and delivery-oriented professional who brings both technical depth and strong communication skills to everything you do. You can explain complex quantitative and credit risk concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike, and you are comfortable presenting findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders. You balance analytical rigor with commercial judgement and understand how quantitative work connects to real business decisions. You thrive in multidisciplinary, multicultural environments and are recognized by colleagues as open, dependable and impactful.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

• Minimum 3+ years of experience in quantitative analysis and statistical modelling, with a strong preference for experience in credit risk modelling or pricing models for credit insurance
• Strong knowledge of credit risk concepts and modelling techniques, including PD, LGD, EAD, portfolio risk, loss distributions and model calibration
• Quantitative programming skills in R, Python or equivalent, with the ability to translate analytical work into effective, high-impact visualizations and communications
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with a foundation in statistical or econometric modelling techniques and/or data science methods
• Ability to derive and communicate recommendations clearly and confidently to a range of audiences — from technical peers to senior business leaders

These are additional nice to haves:

• Understanding of global macroeconomics and financial markets, with experience and knowledge of credit-related products
• Experience with credit portfolio modelling, pricing models, capital models, stress testing or portfolio risk analytics
• Knowledge of model governance, validation, deployment and production monitoring practices
• Progress toward relevant professional qualifications such as CFA, FRM, CQF, IFoA, IAI or equivalent
