Job Description:

As a Staff Enterprise Technology Engineer (Technical Lead), you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable serverless solutions that support bp’s Regulatory Reporting landscape. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, performance, and resilience of critical reporting platforms that underpin bp’s global regulatory obligations.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership to a team of software engineers and support specialists, driving engineering excellence, solution quality, and guidelines across the development lifecycle. Working closely with the Product Owner, Delivery Lead, and Solution Architect, you will supply to technical strategy, architecture, and solution design while remaining actively involved in hands-on development and delivery.

You will bring deep technical expertise across the full technology stack, lead the implementation of complex solutions, mentor engineers, and support the continuous improvement of platforms and processes to ensure the successful delivery of business and regulatory outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Define and drive the technical vision, solution design, and engineering standards for the team.
Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable solutions.
Remain hands-on with software development, contributing high-quality code, reviewing pull requests, and leading the implementation of complex technical solutions.
Make key technical decisions, provide guidance on complex engineering challenges, and act as the primary technical escalation point.
Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture, security, regulatory, and operational standards.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and Delivery Leads to support backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, and prioritization.
Translate business requirements into well-structured technical deliverables and remove technical impediments to ensure predictable delivery.
Drive the adoption of engineering standards, including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and DevSecOps.
Champion the use of AI-enabled engineering practices to improve developer productivity, software quality, delivery speed, and operational efficiency.
Evaluate emerging technologies and AI capabilities, establishing standards and governance for their responsible adoption.
Ensure delivery of high-quality software through robust engineering practices, quality controls, and continuous improvement.
Promote platform reliability, performance, scalability, operational resilience, reuse of common components, and reduction of technical debt.
Coach, mentor, and develop software and support engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives to maintain stable and reliable production services.
Support Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and operational excellence across the technology landscape.
Know the latest with advancements in cloud technologies, software engineering practices, and AI capabilities, applying them to continuously improve the platform and ways of working.

Required Skills and Experience

Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with extensive hands-on experience across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL.
Strong experience designing and developing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database objects.
Proven expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, and solving data-related issues.
Solid experience designing, implementing, and supporting ETL processes, data pipelines, and large-scale data integration solutions.
Professional experience developing cloud-native, serverless solutions on AWS using Python.
Hands-on experience building and supporting integration solutions using APIs, file-based integrations, web services, and event-driven architectures.
Experience developing and deploying applications using AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, AWS Glue, SNS, SQS, and Spark-based data processing frameworks.
Broad knowledge of AWS cloud services across compute, database, storage, integration, and serverless technologies.
Strong understanding of application, data, and platform security principles, ensuring data integrity, consistency, availability, and resilience.
Experience fixing complex production issues, analyzing defects, and supporting testing throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
Experience supporting deployments across development, testing, staging, and production environments using CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Experience working with cloud-native and serverless technologies, data integration patterns, and modern engineering practices.
Hands-on software engineering experience, actively contributing code, conducting code reviews, and leading complex technical implementations.
Ability to produce low-level technical designs, document workflows, and maintain high-quality technical and functional specifications.
Experience working within Agile delivery teams, collaborating with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts, and engineering teams.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience delivering Data Warehousing, Data Migration, and large-scale data transformation initiatives.
Strong understanding of CI/CD and DevOps principles, with hands-on experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for source code management, build pipelines, and deployments.
Experience developing data visualizations, dashboards, and reporting solutions using Power BI or similar analytics platforms.
Exposure to financial markets, transaction lifecycles, and regulatory reporting frameworks such as EMIR, MiFID, Dodd-Frank, or similar regimes.
Experience operating within Agile delivery teams in highly regulated or compliance-driven environments.
Knowledge of trading, regulatory reporting, compliance, or risk management technology landscapes would be advantageous.

You will be part of a cross-functional Agile team within bp’s Regulatory Reporting and Trading Technology landscape, working closely with software engineers, business analysts, product owners, and business stakeholders to balance operational excellence with continuous platform enhancement.
