Job Description

Purpose of the role

To support the Risk Function in delivering it’s objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Accountabilities

• Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
• Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
• Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services.
• Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

Join us as an Economic Crime Risk Manager, where you will play a critical role in protecting the bank and its customers from emerging economic crime threats. In this role, you will conduct external horizon scanning to identify threats and risks that could impact the wider Business Banking area, while also carrying out internal horizon scanning across customer journeys to detect vulnerabilities and emerging trends. You will connect intelligence from multiple sources, map threats and controls across the bank, and identify opportunities to enhance the financial crime framework. Working closely with the Risk Assessment Unit (RAU), you will escalate relevant cases for file reviews and collaborate on investigations arising from transaction monitoring alerts and other risk indicators. Through forward-looking threat intelligence, stakeholder engagement and cross-bank collaboration, you will help strengthen the bank's ability to detect, assess and mitigate financial crime risks.

To be successful as an Economic Crime Risk Manager - Threat Intelligence, you must have the following essential skills

• Extensive first-line Economic Crime experience, with an expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risks across business operations and products.

• Previous experience conducting horizon scanning to identify emerging regulatory and industry developments, and effectively communicate insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders, including Senior VPs.

• Considerable analytical skills with experience working in a Financial Intelligence Unit or financial crime environment, and a proven ability to assess risks, investigate findings, and review customer onboarding activities with a high level of attention to detail.

• Good knowledge of financial crime risks, emerging threats, market trends, and technology, with the ability to use intelligence and insights to identify and mitigate potential risks.

• Sound understanding of data privacy and information handling requirements, with experience managing sensitive information in line with regulatory, legal, and internal policy standards.

Some other highly valued skills may include

• Comprehensive knowledge of UK financial crime legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices relating to Economic Crime and risk management.

• Recognised financial crime qualification (ICA AML Diploma, ACAMS, or Equivalent)

• Proven experience within the Financial Services sector, with a ample understanding of Business Banking products, customers, and associated risk frameworks.

• Well-networked across the financial crime and banking industry, with a ample understanding of key market leaders, emerging trends, and external intelligence sources.

This role can be based in Northampton or London.
