What You'll Do
As Global IT Software Engineer Senior Specialist, you will have overall technical responsibility for the design, development, and technical support of a suite of BCG's internal business applications. You will work with a team of internal and external developers, as well as a cross-functional team consisting of Project Managers, Business Analysts, and others, to deliver high-quality applications that respond to and meet the business needs of the entire BCG organization. You will be expected to participate in hands-on development activities as well as provide technical guidance and oversight of development activities to successfully execute projects. You will have overall responsibility for the health of these applications — in terms of quality of the program code and operational effectiveness — from a technical standpoint.
What You'll Bring
Education
- College degree and 4–6 years of experience developing business applications in a commercial IT setting, or in consulting.
Experience/Knowledge
- Strong experience developing standards-compliant web applications using front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, and Webpack 5 with Module Federation.
- Significant experience developing web applications/services with Node.js, Express, and Apollo Server (GraphQL).
- Strong experience with code versioning tools (Git).
- Experience with Azure/AWS.
- Experience with Docker containerization technologies.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Experience working with and supporting external application development providers.
- Effective, hands-on working knowledge of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude, with a solid understanding of how AI-assisted development pieces (code generation, review, and troubleshooting) fit into the engineering workflow. (Must-have)
- Proven ability to deliver secure, well-tested, high-performing code: consistently achieving comprehensive automated test coverage, writing code with zero known security vulnerabilities, and optimizing for runtime performance and efficiency.
Good to Have
- Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehousing platforms.
Technical Environment (for reference)
- Language & Runtime: TypeScript across all services (frontend and backend); Node.js runtime for all backend services.
- Frontend: React 18, Redux Toolkit, React Router v6, built with Webpack 5 (Module Federation via @module-federation/enhanced).
- Backend: Express 4 for HTTP, Apollo Server for GraphQL, with an internal wrapper package standardizing server setup across services.
- Architecture: npm workspaces monorepo composed of independently deployed micro-frontend services, composed at runtime via Module Federation.
- Frontend serving: webpack-dev-server 5 in development; static builds served via a lightweight static server in production, deployed under a versioned sub-path.
- Quality bar: comprehensive automated test coverage, zero known security vulnerabilities, and a strong focus on performance and code efficiency across the stack.
Who You'll Work With
You will partner day-to-day with the product team for these applications, including Project Managers and Business Analysts who translate business needs into requirements, a mix of internal BCG engineers and external development partners who build and maintain the platform, and IT leadership who set the broader technology roadmap. You will also engage periodically with relevant business stakeholders to align technical delivery with organizational needs.
