Specialist – Automation Test Engineering (Playwright)
Are you a hands-on automation engineer who builds test frameworks from the ground up? Do you enjoy owning quality for a product area, coaching analysts, and partnering closely with developers and product owners? Are you ready to make Playwright the backbone of a fast, reliable, engineering-led quality practice?
Work You’ll Do
Own quality engineering for enterprise web applications and Deloitte’s Tax & Legal technology solutions delivered through the Global Tools Delivery Center. Design test strategy, build and maintain Playwright automation frameworks for UI and API testing, integrate them into CI/CD pipelines, and drive defect resolution to release-ready quality.
You will also mentor Analysts, coordinate UAT, and act as the quality point of contact for tools and solutions built using modern GTDC technologies, championing an automation-first, shift-left approach across the team.
Test Automation and Playwright
● Design, build, and maintain Playwright automation frameworks (page objects, fixtures, reusable libraries) for UI and API testing from scratch.
● Develop data-driven and parameterised tests to cover multiple input combinations efficiently.
● Build and maintain Playwright API acceptance suites with authentication, chained requests, and assertions.
● Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines so they trigger on every code merge, and keep them green.
● Track and grow automation coverage each sprint; refactor and stabilise flaky tests.
● Establish and promote automation best practices and reusable components across the team.
UAT Coordination and Stakeholder Management
● Produce a test plan before testing starts and get it reviewed and approved.
● Plan, coordinate, and drive user acceptance testing cycles; design UAT scenarios, facilitate sessions with business users, and document sign-off.
● Communicate test progress, defect metrics, risks, and quality gates to stakeholders.
● Build strong working relationships across developers, product owners, business analysts, and delivery leads.
Testing and Execution
● Own end-to-end testing for assigned modules – functional, regression, integration, and cross-browser.
● Lead daily defect triage with developers and track every defect to closure.
● Analyse defect trends by severity, module, and root cause, and share findings with the development team.
● Enforce entry and exit criteria – do not approve a release that does not meet the quality bar.
Mentoring and Team Development
● Review Analyst test cases and automation scripts before execution and give specific, constructive feedback.
● Mentor Analysts on Playwright, framework design, and testing best practices.
● Run knowledge-sharing sessions and support onboarding of new team members.
Compliance and Documentation
● Apply Deloitte standards (e.g., copyright, visual identity) and guidelines (e.g., style guide, checklists) to all testing deliverables.
● Maintain the test artefact library – plans, cases, results, and traceability – correctly stored and labelled.
● Develop and maintain internal documentation to facilitate compliance and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
Education: Master’s degree, graduate degree, or B.Tech (IT/CSE/ECE) or equivalent.
● 3–5 years of QA experience with a strong focus on test automation.
● Strong hands-on Playwright expertise for UI and API automation (TypeScript or JavaScript), including framework design and maintenance.
● Proven experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks and reusable components.
● Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
● Proven experience leading or coordinating UAT cycles.
● Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
● Solid knowledge of SDLC, STLC, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
● Experience with defect-tracking tools and quality reporting.
● ISTQB Advanced Level – Test Analyst certification (or equivalent, or in progress).
Preferred / Good to Have
● Tricentis Tosca for enterprise regression automation.
● API testing with Postman (collections, environments, assertions).
● Applying AI-assisted test automation tools and practices (e.g., test generation, self-healing locators).
● Test data management design and tooling.
● Performance testing (e.g., JMeter, k6) and accessibility testing exposure.
● Broader DevOps tooling and containerised test execution.
What We Look For
● An automation-first, shift-left mindset and a drive for engineering excellence.
● Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving.
● Leadership instinct – able to guide and mentor analysts.
● Excellent stakeholder relationship management and communication.
● Eagerness to adopt new tools, including AI-assisted testing, and drive process improvement.
Location and Shift
● Location: Hyderabad
● Shift: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (some projects may require 2:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)
